Continuing Students
2012-2013 Financial Aid Information for Continuing Students
If you are a continuing student, please be aware that financial aid is not automatically renewed. You must reapply for financial aid each year.
Renewal of Institute funds is always based upon satisfactory academic progress, faculty recommendation, need, and the availability of funds. Federal funding is renewed based upon satisfactory academic progress, computed need and the availability of funds.
Financial aid deadlines are important and can easily be missed if you
wait to apply. To be considered for financial aid funds, file the FAFSA by the Priority Deadline, March 2, 2012. (International Students have a separate process.)
File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) - Priority Deadline: March 2nd
The FAFSA is available online. Be sure to list California institute of the Arts, Title IV Code #001132
Personal Identification Number (PIN)
First time applying? You and your parent will need to register for an individual PIN in order to log-in, sign, and submit your FAFSA online. Unsigned FAFSA applications will be considered incomplete and may delay the review process.
Renewal FAFSA Filers - You and your parent must use your FAFSA PIN from last year. If you do not have it you may ask for a duplicate at http://www.pin.ed.gov/PINWebApp/appinstr.jsp.
IRS Data Retrieval
The FAFSA enables families to retrieve tax data from the Internal
Revenue Service (IRS) to make completing the FAFSA easier and more accurate. We encourage families to file their Federal Tax Returns early in order to take advantage of this process.
First Time Financial Aid Applicants
First time financial aid applicants/and their parents must submit copies of their signed 2011 IRS returns and W-2s in order to verify information listed on the FAFSA. These returns are due in the Financial Aid Office no later than April 19th.
Additional Documentation
A financial aid counselor will review your file, and if your
information needs clarification, you will receive a Request for
Documentation. The requested additional information must be submitted to the Financial Aid Office in order for your file to be considered complete and ready for awarding.
